Stephen Schwartz Receives Kaufman Center Honors

Acclaimed composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz was presented with The Creative Arts Award during The Kaufman Center Honors annual gala held at The Pierre in New York City on Monday, May 24, 2004.

The event is held to benefit the Kaufman Center's programs in arts education and performance through its three divisions: the Special Music School, one of New York City's top public schools specializing in musically-gifted children; the Lucy Moses School, a community school of the arts; and Merkin Concert Hall, a world-renowned performance venue.

Previous Kaufman Center honorees include Marilyn Bergman, Cy Coleman, Betty Comden; Aaron Copland; Morton Gould, Jerry Herman; Darius Milhaud, Peter Schickele, and Charles Strouse.
