Jerry Herman and Hair Receive 2009 Tony Awards
Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical picked up a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical at the 63rd Annual Tony Awards ceremony, held June 7, 2009 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. A Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre was presented to composer/lyricist
Jerry Herman, who has one of the most enviable track records in Tony Awards history, earning nominations for six of the seven Broadway shows he created (
Milk and Honey, Hello, Dolly!, Mame, Mack & Mabel, The Grand Tour, and
La Cage Aux Folles) and winning for both
Dolly and
La Cage.
