Solo Success for Tommy Sparks
Tommy Sparks has spent most of his life playing in bands and writing songs. The Gothenburg-born, Stockholm-raised tear-away discovered his first musical love, hip hop, when his sister lent him a mixtape of Kool Moe Dee and Jungle Brothers.
His teens are indebted to grunge, getting into The Pixies and Sonic Youth, before discovering dance music through The Prodigy. After moving to London, Tommy formed Vatican DC, and went on to support his heroes The Prodigy. But after releasing a critically lauded debut album, the band broke up and Tommy decided to go it alone as a solo artist.
Tommy's manager Chris Gentry quickly snagged him a publishing deal with Global Talent Publishing and a record deal with Island Records. Tommy's first single, the infectious "She's Got Me Dancing," was released on Island Records in May this year and instantly gained Tommy recognition as a great new pop talent. The next single was "Miracle" followed up by his eponymous debut album.
"She's Got Me Dancing" has proven to be a very synchable tune. It's the soundtrack to the worldwide i-Touch ad campaign and is also featured on the FIFA 2010 game. Tommy is also an in-demand songwriter having co-written "Wild West" for the new Prodigy album, and "Messages" for the Filthy Dukes.
