With a well-placed song in a Hertz commercial, AMY REGAN's career revs up
By Amy Vandivort
Singer-songwriter Amy Regan discovered her future career very early at the age of thirteen. "I experienced an instantaneous gut instinct that music was what I was destined to do," she says.
Classically trained in vocals, Regan captures audiences with her powerful voice, a hook that not only sells her music, but, these days, also car rentals. Amy recently landed a major advertising placement in a Hertz commercial, which features her hit song "Carry On." She describes the circumstances behind this opportunity as "a classic story of being in the right place at the right time." She met one of the creative directors from the ad agency at her show at Rockwood Music Hall. A year later, the idea was pitched to Hertz, and they loved it.
Although Regan's music is based in an organic singer-songwriter format, she has progressed immensely in her career so far. Regan started with folk and acoustic arrangements, but she reports "My more recent music takes influence from a number of different genres, playing around with soul, blues, pop, and rock."
Regan's songs are honest and telling. "Songwriting is a kind of release for me," she says. "It's a way that I explore and understand my life. Even the songs that are more fictional can be traced back to being based on experiences I've had."
Great things are in store for Regan in 2010. She is now working on a new album, which will be released late this year, and booking an extensive national tour.
